SECRETARY’S REPORT FOR ANNUAL GENERAL BODY MEETING

Dear Respected Members,
It is my great honour to address you all members on the occasion of Delhi Warrier Samithy’s Annual General Body Meeting – cum – Onam Celebrations and I thank you all for having graced the occasion with your presence.
The year 2008-09 has been a very remarkable year for the Delhi Warrier Samithy. This has been the period which witnessed a turning point in the history of our Association that shall be emblazoned in Golden Letters.
The first and foremost event which shaped the life of Delhi Warrier Samithy during this period was the launching of website, www.warriersonline.com. This could be stated as a “Dream Come True” occurrence for the Association. The launch of this website has made everybody around the globe sit back and take note of Delhi Warrier Samithy more seriously. The man, who was responsible for this amazing feat which made all of us with Delhi Warrier Samithy very proud of, is none other than Mr. Balagopal Keeran. I, on behalf of Delhi Warrier Samithy and on my own behalf, wish to thank him for having done this great service to our Warrier community. The effort to create, launch and maintain the website is by no means a trivial exercise. It requires, besides incurring substantial expenses, a rock-hard commitment to serve our community. I earnestly believe we all must emulate him for the service he is doing for our community, in spite of his busy schedule, without expecting anything in return from the Delhi Warrier Samithy.
The warriersonline.com helped to create an hallow-effect for the Delhi Warrier Samithy, whose activities are tracked by our community members around the globe.
I wish to announce that warriersonline.com is being remodelled and a new series termed “Warrier of the Month” would be posted shortly. The person who would figure in this section would a person next-door. There are very big public personalities among the Warriers. This section is not merely intended to project those big personalities, but also to focus attention on ordinary Warriers, who may not have become big public personalities, but have earned enormous respect among our community members.
I wish to admit in this forum that we had seen over the years that participation of members in the Samithy’s activities are steadily dwindling. One of the primary reasons attributed to this unfortunate fact is the long distance that needs to be travelled in Delhi to reach from one location to other, be it for rehearsing for Cultural Programmes or for any Executive Body Meetings. We realized this predicament of our members and we divided the whole Delhi into 5 zones, with an Area Coordinator who is also an Executive Body Member for each zone. The responsibility of the Area Coordinator is to be in touch with members of that zone and bring in their suggestions to the Central Executive Committee who would then deliberate on these issues and appropriate decisions taken. I state that it is just a small step, but in the right direction fully aware of a long journey ahead of us.
It is the desire of Delhi Warrier Samithy that from next year on wards the cultural events that are held during AGMs are organized by members from their respective 5 zones and a competition held between them. It is the bounding duty of each member to contribute their best, only then an Association can perform better. A member distancing himself from the Association on a pretext that the Association is doing nothing for him to encourage him to lend his participation, is a thinking we must try to change. As you all know an Association does not belong to any person or a group from a certain region. A member’s or a zone’s importance can be enhanced with their contribution to the Association which in turn makes the Association more vibrant.
I take the pleasure of informing you that in the history of our Association, this year witnessed a surplus income, perhaps, the first time since its inception. This, I believe, is by no means a mean feat. I do agree that the major factor that contributed to this increased income is enhanced membership charges. However, when one takes an average of this membership charges with the expenses incurred by the Delhi Warrier Samithy for conducting Picnic – cum – Annual Sports Meet, Mandala Pooja and AGM, this membership charges is highly reasonable. Earlier, besides membership charges, a contribution was sought from every member for conducting each event. Now, with the increased membership charges all expenses for conducting the events throughout the year by the Association are taken care of and no additional amount is sought from the members. This was highly appreciated by many members.
We are confident that with the instating of new Executive Body today, the income generation of the Association will still rise. Hence, the Association is longing for an Executive Body, with higher dynamism and radical thinking with more active participation from members to take it to still greater heights.
The current Executive Body feels that with the growing income, it is imperative that Delhi Warrier Samithy is more structurally organized and conforms to all legal requirements. The Delhi Warrier Samithy was registered in the year 1992 and for such a registered Association, there are various statutory requirements that need to be met, which unfortunately has not been complied with, for whatever the reason may be. Hence, the Executive Body feels that the Delhi Warrier Samithy is re-christened by some other name, perhaps, Warrier Samajam Delhi or by any other name, which the members feel appropriate and then registered with the Registrar of Societies. All legal and statutory compliance may be adhered to, subsequently. This would ensure that our Association is not confronted with any legal hassles at a later stage. This is a very important step which a new Executive Committee needs to take as the Association is getting notice on account of warriersonlie.com and also on account of gradual raising of revenues, which I am confident, is certainly bound of mount in the near future, substantially. We all can now proudly claim that Delhi Warrier Samithy is getting revived and there is no looking back for it.

On behalf of the Executive Body Committee, I am pleased to announce that Delhi Warrier Samithy is holding the Annual General Body Meeting-cum-Onam Celebrations on 20th September 2009 (Sunday) at Neelkanth Hall at the Community Centre at IIT Campus. All members are requested to grace the occasion with your presence with family members.
Prizes will also be disbursed to children and members for those who excelled in sports events held during Annual Sports Meet conducted earlier this year.
Proficiency prizes will also be given to children for 10th & 12th Standard who had scored the highest marks. All members are requested to courier / post their children’s mark list to the below mentioned address to reach us before 18th September 09.

The Drawing competition for children would be held from 9:30 AM. Members who wish to have their children participate in the drawing competition are requested to be present at the hall by 9:15 AM. We express our inability to include any children for the drawing competition who arrive after 9:30 AM. The required drawing papers, sketch pens and drawing pencils may be brought along with the children.
Cultural programmes organized by elders and children would begin by 10:30 AM.
Sumptuous meal in traditional Kerala style on banana leaves will be served for lunch.

“Youth Wing” of Warrier Samajam – is the result of few young minds who would want to make a difference in the existing system. This young and enthusiastic team can bring upon a valuable change and will proceed further with their motto “We can create a DIFFERENCE”
The activities which this team will bring on would be inclusive of Social, Political Economic issues with Spiritual outlook. And there will also some cultural activities like sports, drama etc.
Our Vision is to make this YOUTH gathering as a platform for the - Future Masters, and to be a CATALYST - a change agent, where ever they go.
As an initiation we are going to conduct a YUVA JANA SANGAMAM at Guruvayur Akshaya on 15th August 2009, where about 100 youth from different parts of the district will be participating.
Kindly bless us for this small effort taken by us and we promise you that we will always stick to the values what our “parampara” has taught us.

Then there are 2 sessions till noon and after lunch,again 2 session and by 4 P.M. the sessions and the camp ends.

If you have come across any bright students coming from poor financial background who have finished their 10th standard this year (April 2009) and scored more than 80%,please ask them to contact the NGO-Prerana (supported by Infy foundation).The NGO is conducting a written test on 14th june and those who clear the test will be eligible for financial help for their further studies.
